Airport Parking
Without the Price Tag
Private alternatives near every major Australian airport.
Why airport carparks charge what they charge
Airport carparks operate on captive-market economics. The land is leased from airport operators at high rates, demand is predictable and inelastic, and until recently there was no credible alternative for travellers who needed to leave a car for more than a day.
Private parking near airports changes that. Homeowners and small businesses within 1–5 kilometres of Australian airports can offer spaces at a fraction of the official carpark rate. The trade-off is convenience, you may need to Uber or walk a few minutes to the terminal instead of driving to a multi-storey. For a 5-day trip at $60/day versus $15/day, most people find that trade-off very easy to make.

Short trips vs long trips
1–3 days
Private parking saves a meaningful amount even for short trips. A 3-day trip at $15/day versus $60/day saves $135. Worth the few minutes extra transit time. Uncovered parking is typically fine for 3 days in most cities.
4–14 days
The savings are significant, often $200–400 on a typical two-week trip. For longer stays, covered parking is worth the small premium to protect against hail and bird damage. Check that the host is set up for your return time if arriving late.
4 things to confirm before booking airport parking
Confirm walking distance or check if host offers a drop-off to the terminal.
Check whether covered or uncovered (important for long trips in hail-prone cities).
Confirm access hours, early morning check-ins need a host who is set up for it.
Read the cancellation terms before booking, especially for long trips where plans can change.
Common Questions
Is it safe to leave my car at a private address for a week?
Private parking hosts near airports are accustomed to longer stays. The Handover system documents the condition of your car at drop-off and pick-up, which is your protection. Choose listings with photos showing security, fenced yards, CCTV, covered options, and read host reviews where available.
What about transport to the terminal?
Three options: walk if it is close enough, Uber or taxi from the host's address, or some hosts near airport hotels can arrange a shuttle connection. Check the listing description. For early flights, confirm the host's access setup, most are happy to accommodate early drop-offs.
What if my flight is delayed and I need the space longer?
Message the host as soon as you know. Most will accommodate an extension, especially for a few days. Monthly parkers are rarely affected by short overruns. For longer extensions, the host may adjust the booking through the platform.
Is airport-adjacent private parking legal?
Yes. There are no restrictions on renting a private driveway near an airport. It is the same as renting a driveway near a CBD or train station. The host's council zoning and any strata by-laws apply in the same way as any other location.
