How to Find & Book Storage
Everything you need to know about finding the right space for your vehicle or equipment on StorageFinder.
1
Searching for Storage
StorageFinder makes it easy to find storage near you:
- Location search: Enter a suburb, postcode, or city to find available spaces in your area. Results are sorted by proximity by default.
- Filters: Narrow your results by vehicle type, security features, price range, and access hours to find exactly what you need.
- Map view: Switch to the map view to see listings plotted on a map. This is especially helpful if you want storage close to a specific route or depot.
- Save searches: Found a few options? Bookmark listings you like so you can compare them later.
2
Evaluating a Listing
Not all storage spaces are created equal. Here’s what to look for when evaluating a listing:
- Photos: Look for clear, recent photos that show the space, surface type, entry point, and any security features. Listings with more photos tend to be more trustworthy.
- Security features: Check for CCTV, fencing, locked gates, lighting, and on-site presence. These are listed in the security section of each listing.
- Reviews: Read reviews from other storers to get a sense of the host’s reliability and the overall experience.
- Host verification: Look for the verified host badge, which indicates the host has completed identity and payment verification.
- Vehicle types accepted: Make sure your vehicle type is listed as accepted. If you’re unsure, message the host before booking.
3
Making a Booking
Once you’ve found the right space, here’s how to book:
- Instant book vs. request: Some listings support instant booking, meaning your reservation is confirmed immediately. Others require a booking request that the host must approve — you’ll usually hear back within 24 hours.
- Choosing dates: Select your check-in and check-out dates. Some listings have a minimum stay requirement (e.g., 7 days or 30 days).
- Vehicle details: Provide your vehicle type and any relevant details (e.g., length, height) so the host can confirm the space is suitable.
- Message the host: If you have questions about access, surface type, or anything else, send the host a message before booking.
4
Payment & Security
StorageFinder handles all payments securely:
- Secure payments: All payments are processed through our secure platform. Your card details are never shared with the host.
- Payment held until check-in: Your payment is held securely and only released to the host after your check-in date. This protects you if there are any issues.
- Refund policies: Each listing has a cancellation policy (flexible, moderate, or strict). Review this before booking so you know your options if plans change.
- Never pay off-platform: Always keep payments within StorageFinder. This ensures you’re covered by our protection policies. Never transfer money directly to a host.
5
Drop-Off Day
Here’s what to expect when you drop off your vehicle:
- Confirm details: Before your check-in date, message your host to confirm the drop-off time and any access instructions.
- Communicating with your host: Use the in-app messaging system to coordinate. The host may provide a gate code, key collection point, or meet you on-site.
- Key and access handover: If the space has a locked gate or requires a key, your host will arrange handover. Make sure you understand how to enter and exit the property.
- Inspect the space: Take a quick look at the space when you arrive. If anything doesn’t match the listing, contact support before leaving your vehicle.
6
During Your Stay
While your vehicle is stored, here’s what you need to know:
- Accessing your vehicle: If you need to visit your vehicle during the storage period, check the listing’s access hours. Some spaces offer 24/7 access, while others are by arrangement only.
- Extending your booking: Need to stay longer? You can extend your booking through the platform. Contact your host in advance to confirm availability.
- Messaging your host: If any issues arise — access problems, concerns about the space, or questions — message your host through the platform. Our support team is also available if needed.
7
Leaving a Review
After your booking ends, take a moment to share your experience:
- Why reviews matter: Reviews help other storers make informed decisions and reward great hosts. They also help us maintain quality across the platform.
- How to leave feedback: After check-out, you’ll receive a prompt to rate your experience and leave a written review. Be honest and specific — mention the condition of the space, communication with the host, and whether it matched the listing.
- Star ratings: Rate your experience from 1 to 5 stars. Consider factors like accuracy of the listing, ease of access, security, and host communication.
