Why peer-to-peer storage
More space. Less cost. No contracts.
StorageFinder connects you with Australians who have a spare garage, shed, or workshop sitting empty. You get secure storage close to home. They earn from space they already own.
Prices are set by hosts, not a corporate rate card. Most list at 30–50% below what a commercial facility charges for the same square meterage.

Before You Book
Five things worth knowing
Know your cubic metres before you browse
A single garage bay holds 15–20 cubic metres, enough for a 2-bedroom unit's worth of furniture. Measure your items roughly before comparing listings so you don't over-pay for space you don't need.
Use The Handover on every booking
Take photos the moment you arrive and again when you leave. It takes 30 seconds and creates a timestamped record that protects both you and your host if anything is disputed later.
Ask about access terms before you book
Most listings state access arrangements upfront. Some offer 24/7 entry, others require advance notice. If it's not listed, message the host directly. Access is worth clarifying before you commit.
Check if the space has power
Some garages and sheds have power points, which matters for fridges, climate-sensitive items, or charging tools. It's noted on most listings. If not, ask the host.
Your contents insurance travels with your items
StorageFinder's Booking Support provides discretionary goodwill reimbursement. It's not insurance. Keep your contents cover active before moving anything into storage.

Frequently asked questions
How is StorageFinder different from a commercial self storage facility?
Commercial self storage facilities are purpose-built businesses with rows of identical units. StorageFinder connects you with real Australians who have a spare garage, shed or workshop and are willing to rent it out. Spaces are typically cheaper, often closer to where you live, and come with a more personal arrangement. You deal directly with the host rather than a corporate reception desk.
What can I store in a private garage or shed?
Furniture, appliances, boxes, tools, business inventory, seasonal gear (Christmas decorations, ski equipment, camping gear), sporting equipment and household overflow during moves or renovations. What you can store depends on the individual listing. Each host describes what their space is suitable for.
How much does private self storage cost?
Prices are set by hosts and vary by space size, location and access type. A single garage bay typically ranges from $30–$100 per week. Prices are shown upfront on every listing. No surprises at checkout.
What size space do I need?
A single garage bay (15–20 m²) fits most 1–2 bedroom household contents. A double garage (30–40 m²) suits a 3–4 bedroom home. Larger sheds and workshops can accommodate business inventory, trade equipment, or the entire contents of a family home. Use the space guide on this page as a starting point, then check exact dimensions on individual listings.
Can I access my items any time?
Access depends on the listing and the arrangement with your host. Some hosts offer 24/7 access, others require a time window or prior notice. Access terms are described on each listing before you book.
How does The Handover work?
The Handover is our arrival and departure check-in process. You photograph your items when you move them in and again when you leave. The timestamped photos create a shared record that protects both you and your host. Both parties access the photo log through the platform.
Is my stored property insured?
StorageFinder does not provide insurance. We recommend maintaining your own contents insurance for any items you store. Every booking includes our Booking Support programme, which offers discretionary goodwill reimbursement of up to $2,000 if something goes wrong. This is not a substitute for insurance.
Can I cancel without penalty?
Each listing has a cancellation policy set by the host: flexible, moderate, or strict. The policy is shown clearly before you book. There are no lock-in contracts. Most bookings are month-to-month.
